LAKE BORUMBA

Like humans Journey Monsters are quite partial to a scenic water view.

For this reason, I long ago chose the peaceful mountains surrounding Lake Borumba for my cosy monster burrow.

The lakes gentle waters are perfect for activities such as boating, water-skiing, fishing, kayaking, paddle-boarding, swimming, and jet-skiing.

I often invite my fellow Journey Monsters to meetup at the day-use area for a barbecue or picnic with the wallabies and me.

KENILWORTH

Kenilworth is a foodies heaven so make sure that you wear your stretchy pants when you visit.

Those frequent times that I have a monster craving for donuts I journey to Kenilworth Country Bakery which makes a wide range of magical, enticing flavours that includes lemon and finger-lime, cookies and cream, and espresso. If you're feeling competitive you can try the one kilogram donut and sausage roll challenges and get your name on the walls of honour. A monster-sized achievement.

Kenilworth Dairies is a must visit with a delectable assortment of cheeses, yogurts, and chocolate mousse all made onsite. As if that wasn't enough they also have a café, ice cream bar, and a shop full of gourmet goodies.

KANDANGA

Sightings of my native wildlife friends such as echidna, koalas, and wallabies are frequent in Kandanga, as in all the Mary Valley, so please drive carefully while visiting the area and enjoying the all-encompassing, scenic views of the countryside.

A long-time popular destination for camping and caravanning Kandanga is village vibes with convenient amenities.

The Kandanga Farm Store is highly recommended by me for the best sit-down breakfast in the Mary Valley. A wholesome fork-to-table experience. Kandanga Farm Store also hosts regular dining events, farm visits, and workshops too.

IMBIL

Imbil is a warm and friendly place that exudes country hospitality and charm. The historic Railway Hotel Imbil has been a hub for the community for over 100-years. It is the perfect place to have a yarn with the locals, many of whom have tales to tell of their Journey Monster encounters over a cold beer and some pub grub.

Bordered by mountains, forests, farmland, and the winding Yabba and Coonoon-Gibba Creeks Imbil offers a relaxed, down-to-earth lifestyle with a kayak launch site, lookout, and fishing spots all within walking distance of main street, Yabba Road. A short drive away is Lake Borumba, Borumba Deer Park, and Lake Borumba Camping Grounds.

AMAMOOR

The historic Mary Valley Rattler stops at Amamoor Station twice weekly when making its 'Classic Rattler Run' through the magnificent Mary Valley from Gympie, offering the ideal chance to explore the charming village and local market.

Amamoor is also host to the annual Gympie Country Music Muster which sees the big names of country music and a legion of fans descend on the peaceful village for a fun weekend of camping and live music spread over four days.

Home to over 100 different types of birds, platypus, waterfalls, and waterholes, Amamoor State Forest is a must-visit featuring a variety of walks and hikes from beginner to experienced through the beautiful eucalypt and rainforests.

DAGUN

The Weekly Dagun Growers Market held at the lovingly restored Dagun Station is well worth a visit. Local growers bring their chemical free, seasonal produce to the market every Saturday to coincide with the arrival of The Mary Valley Rattler historic steam train. There's live music, tasting plates, and good vibes every weekend rain or shine.

A generally quiet area of stunning, sweeping views, rolling green pastures dotted with cows and horses, mountains, and forest, Dagun is a tiny place that's well worth taking a journey to.
