As Ambassador for Mary Valley Journey Monsters I would like to take this opportunity to clear the air, and address some of the both negative and positive publicity that has arisen around Journey Monsters due to some 'incidents' and 'unfortunate misunderstandings.'

Or as humans in hushed voices, their shaking hands holding stiff drinks at the local watering-hole have dubbed them, - 'local mysteries' and 'close encounters.'

Let me first reassure you, or perhaps disappoint you, that we are not ghosts, ghouls, goblins, or fairies. We are not tricks of the light, holograms, weather balloons, or escaped zoo animals either. Are we Big Foots cousin Little Foot? No we are not related at all. Nor are we aliens, and we are definitely not drop bears. We are Journey Monsters and we are just as real as you are.

Yes, we are monsters, and yes, we can turn invisible. I can assure you that we don't spend our time hiding under your bed or in your closet ready to jump out at you, that would be weird!

You wont find my kind recorded in any 'serious' academic reference books or featured in an Attenborough documentary. We are good at hiding from humans and cameras most of the time but sometimes we do slip up. We feel just awful that we have at times made humans feel scared, we mean you no harm. While it is true that we sometimes hitch rides with unsuspecting, unaware travellers it's really not as bad, ill-mannered, or intrusive as it might sound. It's a good thing, really. We actually try to secretly help humans when we can, and we offer protection to travellers.

Once or twice in the past I have even given some humans some gold!

Local Journey Monsters often sit around campfires in the hopes of a marshmallow, which means that we have heard a lot of creepy ghost stories in our time. It does get a little awkward when the ghost story turns out to be about us! From our perspective this is all just a huge misunderstanding, although we can appreciate that it must be quite startling to unexpectedly see a Journey Monster, and then see us disappear into nothingness. Believe me, we are actually just as startled to see you, see us.

There is a local urban legend in the Mary Valley that if you skip a rock along the water at Lake Borumba while touching your nose with your other hand and saying, "Mary Valley Monster" loudly that a Journey Monster will appear. This is not true. Honestly. You cannot summon a Journey Monster. Sorry. It has also been said by some conspiracy minded humans that Journey Monsters are part of a government surveillance program. Nope. Journey Monsters would never use our ability to turn invisible, or our natural curiosity about humans, to become spies. We stay out of human politics and affairs, as humans do of ours.

So please do not believe any scary campfire stories you hear about little monsters that disappear right before your eyes, we are harmless. You have been living an existence with journey monsters around you your whole life, you just didn't know it. See, nothing to be scared of at all. Journey Monsters are peaceful, and we are from planet Earth. If you happen to catch a quick glimpse of us through the trees or just beyond the light of your campfire, know that it is actually very good luck to see us as it is so rare to do so.

As you can see that while there has been some negative press and bad publicity about us, or in these particular cases about me, and many false, unkind perceptions, there has been some good press about us too. We Journey Monsters would like to keep that positivity flowing. This is why as Journey Monster Ambassador for the Mary Valley I am here now, setting the record straight. My hope is that humans and Journey Monsters can live in peace and harmony, and enjoy travelling this region in friendship together. I can't wait to show you around my habitat.

I am not the first Ambassador for the Mary Valley. In fact I am just the most recent in a long line of Journey Monster Ambassadors. I am however the first Ambassador worldwide to decide to try something brave, different, and almost unthinkable, and reach out to humans. In this modern era where everyone including many Journey Monsters worldwide carry a camera at all times, 'incidents' and 'evidence' have become increasingly common. It is time, at last, to let all humans know with certainty that we exist.
